The group consisted of six men, Moses Hess, Bill Eberly, Israel Brandt, James "Buck" McKnight, Joe Mays, and George Zechman. They were all local businessmen and farmers who hatched a plan to kill Raber, who they believed had a lot of money and valuables.

They were initially able to convince Raber to take out a life insurance policy and then convinced him to take a trip with them to a nearby town, where they intended to kill him and collect the insurance money.

However, things did not go as planned, and Raber was killed on the trip. The Blue Eyed Six were eventually caught and tried for the murder. Five of them were convicted and sentenced to death, while one was acquitted.

The case garnered national attention and was seen as an example of the greed and corruption of small-town America. It has since become a famous case in American folklore and history.
